EuroFestival: HOME

Open Eye Gallery and Ukrainian. Photographies present HOME, a cultural celebration that explores the meaning of home through Ukrainian photography and UK poetry. This event will be held across Liverpool City Region, featuring exhibitions, trails, and events that showcase the vibrancy and creativity of modern Ukrainian culture.

Six Ukrainian photographers tell their stories about home through images. Six UK poets respond with a short poem. These diptychs will be situated in public spaces and on Merseyrail sites. The photographers: Maryna Frolova, Alexander Chekmenev, Igor Chekachkov, Polina Polikarpova, Yaroslav Solop, Mykhaylo Palinchak. The poets: Deryn Rees-Jones, Jackie Kay, James Conor Patterson, John Hegley, Hanan Issa, Roger McGough, curated by the National Poetry Library.

HOME encourages visitors to participate in a range of activities, including the exploration of 25 independent venues hosting Ukrainian photographs, with visitors invited to collect postcards and upload their own responses in the form of poems, lyrics, or letters. The trails culminate in exhibitions held at the Unity Theatre, Williamson Art Gallery and Museum, Norton Priory, Kirkby Gallery, or The Atkinson.

​​Ukrainian curators and photographers and UK poets are talking about home and what it means to them in Home From Home film produced by Hurricane Films and Arthouse Traffic Films. The film will be available to watch during Home. Perspectives exhibition at Open Eye Gallery and online.

Additionally, visitors can attend the HOME exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery, featuring Ukrainian photography that celebrates the diverse nature of Ukrainian culture. Visitors are encouraged to contribute words in support of Ukrainian culture.
