IN // BETWEEN is a practice-led research collaboration, reimagined since February 2022, that takes place in cities across Europe and online. The research group is made up of two Ukrainian and two UK-based cultural practitioners. Ivgenia Gubkina is the co-founder of the Urban Forms Center, Kharkiv and Olena Kasperovych from the YermilovCentre, Kharkiv. Ievgenia is now based in London and Olena in Lviv. Kyung Hwa Shon and Aleya James are both based at the Royal College of Art, London and work with the Graduate Diploma programme.

IN // BETWEEN comprises a series of encounters between the research group and cultural practitioners of the Ukrainian diaspora that emerges as a practical research methodology. Using an (im)material artefact “The Suitcase”, they engage in practices of documentation and archiving, writing and drawing, photographing and collecting, reading and talking. These practices initiate critical questions for the online and face-to-face workshops and vice-versa.
IN // BETWEEN’s goal is to imagine and materialise new cultural infrastructures and
collaborative frameworks around shared concerns that arise over the research period. Each encounter establishes a geographical as well as conceptual meeting point which can be used to set up a network of creative practitioners, organisations and institutions. We hope to initiate new research-based practice arts and humanities methodologies that can be actively sustained in, and between, and in-between Kharkiv and London.
During the course of the winter/spring of 2022-2023 the following events and collaborations will be held:
